Krishna(Kannan) belonged to the Vrishni clan of Yadavas from Mathura, and was the eighth son born to the princess Devaki, and her husband Vasudeva. The king Kansa, Devaki’s brother, had ascended the throne by imprisoning his father, King Ugrasena. Afraid of a prophecy that predicted his death at the hands of Devaki’s eighth son, Kansa had the couple locked into a prison cell and killed all seven.
Krishna, who was born to Devaki as the eighth child, was given to Yashoda and Nanda in Gokul, by Krishna’s father Vasudeva on the night of his birth. Thus, Yasoda was the foster-mother of Krishna. With the discovery of Krishna’s real parents as well as the public knowledge that he is the heir apparent of Mathura, Yashoda had to let go of her son in the end.
Various childhood episodes or Lilas of Krishna, growing in Yashoda’s household abound in Hindu religious texts. The stories of Krishna’s childhood and youth tell how he became a cow herder, his mischievous pranks as Makhan Chor (butter thief) and his role as a protector of the people of Vrindavana.
Tanjore Paintings of Hindu God/Goddess done on Glass is decorative, attractive and cost less than Tanjore paintings.
Have the design with reverse side of the transparent tracing sheet on the glass.
Because we are drawing on the reverse side of the glass.
So that it’ll be perfect, when it’s viewed from the front side.
I draw the traced picture of Yasoda Kannan over the reverse side of the glass.
Keep a white sheet of paper underneath, so that the design is clearly seen.
Apply the gold color(Pearl metallic or Gold powder mixed) for ornaments and glass colors/stone colors/3D colors for stones in jewels.
When applying, just lift the glass and see whether the color completely filled the design.
Viewing(front) side of the painting
Today, I just finished with this level. Day after tomorrow (two days time for drying) we will finish the acrylic/pearl colors for fabrics in the design.
I visualize the effect of giving grey in gradient mode. Mixed black, chinese white, prussian blue and little crimson lake…got the correct shade. Prepare darker grey and lighter grey by adding some more white to it. The painting being vertically long, I prefer to give the shades alongside the figures.
3D Outliner :
Before going for shading I want to give the painting the rusty look of that land by giving some 3d outliner – Glitter Black color. Moreover its a glass, it reflects light and the painting is also an abstract-like, so I prefer to give some glitter touch to it.
Dabbing the oil colors on glass, I strike upon a thought of giving two columns of darker variation on each side and lighter shade in the center, not giving gradual gradient on the glass. It feels better and comes out well.
In this painting the gradient moves out from center to corners in a circular manner. Most Glass Tanjore Paintings which comprise Gods and Goddess reflects this type of gradient variation.
This African art doesn’t need one like this. So I worked out as separate perpendicular columns of shades.
Nice to paint this type of art on the glass…it has no defined face, eyes, nose and lips that makes me to put so much of oil paint variations on the face…because I usually apply oil colors for the skin of the figure that I am painting.
Giving Shades :
Most glass painters, mostly beginners… use the same acrylic colors, that too not showing any variations for the cheek, chin or forehead… I wont argue you all to not using any acrylic colors for the skin texture. Show some color variations. Keep the glass upright and do the painting.
Light shaded part
Drawing outlines for the shaded part gives the picture an amateurish look .
Draw only the outline of the pitcher. Give the lighter shades while coloring.
First put the light shades. Then give the dark shade part and when its wet(acrylic dry quick) take some dark shade on your brush, move over the lighter shaded part. Remember you are painting on the reverse side. So keep the glass upright and view the painting’s shade, whether it comes out well or not.
Merging of lighter and darker shades
Making lighter in the center
Shades in Pitcher
Acrylic Colors are over
Painting Side - Reverse
Careful about the Large Glass :
Some cuts and wounds on the pressed part of your hand with the glass are common while putting the glass upright.
Now next I paint the background with oil colors which gives the gradient effect…Wait…
